What if we were to walk each step as if it were a miracle?
Thich Nhat Hanh writes in Your True Home that by being truly aware of each moment, each breath and each step, we can appreciate that we are participating in the miracle of life. In fact, each one of our steps is a miracle.
In Chapter 5: Walking Meditation, this revered Buddhist monk and peace activist teaches: “If you are able to walk like that, each step would be very nourishing and healing, you walk as if you kiss the earth with your feet, as if you massage the earth with your feet.”
Kissing the earth with our feet …. these words resonate with love, tenderness, concern, connection, gratitude ….
I encourage my clients to seek to live fully their right life – to be their authentic self. Being mindful of how we walk our daily paths supports our authenticity.
It seems to me that to walk the path of your life grounded with deep appreciation for the gift of each moment is to forge a pathway full of beauty and joy.
With deep gratitude comes deep joy.
And this comes with practice.
Take the first step, then the next, and then the next.
Acknowledge your participation in the miracle of life. Accept the gift of each moment. Open your eyes and heart to the beauty that surrounds you.
So how will you travel your life’s pathways? The choice is yours.
Will you kiss the earth?
