For years doctors have told us to exercise and eat our vegetables in order to stay healthy. Seems like good advice.
But Dr. Laura Koniver, MD prescribes something else….. CREATIVITY.
As in, CREATE ANYTHING.
Dr. Koniver asserts that the action of creativity produces energy flow in and out of our bodies that is both important to our overall health and facilitates healing.
Conversely, if we are suppressing our creative urges, then we are preventing this healing energy flow.
The more we create, the more we support our good physical health.
“Fine. But I’m no Picasso,” I hear you muttering.
In regard to supporting your health, creativity is not just about the fine arts.
It’s about making something new. Something that wasn’t there before.
Me. I love to make stuff. Especially, new types of things. A couple of months ago, I crocheted 100 plastic grocery bags into a tote bag.
I doubt I’ll ever do it again, but I found the concept and process interesting. This is one example of being creative.
Creative actions come in all sizes and colors. They may include:
- Photography
- Dance
- Music
- Gardening
- Some kind of art
- Exploring/traveling
- Cooking – devising new recipes
- Sewing/knitting
- Creative writing
- Drama
- Coloring books
- Woodworking
Everyone is able to be creative. It’s not so much about skill or perfection. It’s about action and the process.
So, just get going. Get your daily creativity flowing. Focus on the joy of the process. It’s a healthy groove.
